Intensive Survey for Groundwater Potential Assessment on Water Shed Basis

 

While assessing groundwater potential block wise, the whole block is classified as over-exploited, critical, semi-critical or safe, but there are some pockets with in over-exploited and critical blocks where the groundwater potential is more, or in some semi-critical or safe, there are places where the development is more than estimated. To eliminate the above conditions, it was decided to take intensive survey for groundwater potential assessment on Water Shed basis. Totally 1552 mini watersheds have been taken up for the study and it is under progress.

Groundwater Potential Assessment

Based on the Methodology and norms, issued by the Groundwater Resources Estimation Committee 1997, set up by the Government of India, the groundwater assessment was made for all blocks in Tami Nadu. The status of groundwater development and the category of blocks as follow:
